Safenwil, 5 October 2026: 14 adventurers have secured their place in the Defender Trophy World Final following the conclusion of the European Qualifiers in Les Comes, Spain, which took place from 4 to 14 June. Among them will be Simon Kessler from Graubünden, who will represent Switzerland after a grueling contest.
Simon Kessler, who shares a great passion for all kinds of outdoor activities, now joins a growing lineup of finalists set to compete at the 2026 Defender Trophy World Final in Africa, hosted in partnership with Tusk, Defender’s conservation partner since 1990. The winners will take on a unique mission, leaving a lasting legacy for the people and places they encounter along the way. The final will take place in October across Namibia, Angola, and Botswana.
The Defender Trophy is inspired by the Trophy and Challenge events of past decades. At its core is a mission with a meaningful purpose. Real conservation challenges encountered by the Tusk teams in the field shape every stage of the competition. These challenges provide essential mobility in remote terrain and help support the long-term protection of wildlife in some of the world's most important ecosystems.
Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender, said: “Les Comes did not disappoint. Watching the participants overcome every challenge, place complete trust in one another, read the terrain, and never give up, is exactly what the Defender Trophy is all about. What impressed me most was the awareness that this competition is about more than just the result. Everyone here is striving for the opportunity to work alongside Tusk and make a truly meaningful difference. That shared purpose is what makes this competition so special. Congratulations to everyone who took part. We look forward to seeing Simon Kessler at the World Final in Africa later this year.”
Simon Kessler said after his success: “I’m overwhelmed. When my name was called, I could hardly believe it. Regardless of the outcome, this experience was already something very special because of the people I had the chance to meet and the friendships that were formed. Now, to travel to Africa and be part of this adventure is simply incredible.”
