In North Wales, British Red Cross teams are on active service with the Defender to help people living in hard-to-reach areas, such as Snowdonia, the Llŷn Peninsula, and the Isle of Anglesey.

The converted Defender 130 was gifted to the British Red Cross by JLR to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

For this collaboration with the British Red Cross, which The Queen supported for 70 years, the Defender 130 was adapted in line with JLR’s modern luxury principles to include advanced communication features.

Its enhanced 4G-connected antenna provides a strong, reliable signal wherever it operates—an essential capability for responding along the remote Welsh coast and mountainous terrain.

It features a built-in telephone, a VHF communications radio, and an upgraded telematics system with GPS tracking. A roof-mounted solar power system charges an auxiliary battery to power onboard accessories when the engine is switched off.

An integrated drawer system allows teams to transport blankets, food supplies, and first-aid equipment. There is even a built-in kettle, making it possible to brew tea on the go.
